70th Anniversary of the Ruby Slippers Creates New Shoe Magic

The Wizard of Oz, made in 1939, has its 70th anniversary next year. To celebrate the movie, Warner Bros. Consumer Products in has invited 19 dazzling designers to make fanciful new creations inspired by the movie's beloved Ruby Slippers.

The shoes, which all feature Swarovski crystals as part of their designs, are by A. Testoni, Abaeté, Alberta Ferretti, Betsey Johnson, Botkier, Christian Louboutin, Diane von Furstenberg, Giuseppe Zanotti, Jimmy Choo, L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani, Lisa Pliner, Manolo Blahnik, Moschino, Oscar de la Renta, Roger Vivier, Sergio Rossi, Stuart Weitzman, Tibi and Tuleh. Just the thought gives me chills of anticipation!

All of the shoes will be presented at a Saks Fifth Avenue gala on September 4, 2008. They will be viewable in the windows as well as the designer shoe salon. Afterwards, the shoes will make an appearance in the tents at Bryant Park during Fashion Week. The shoes will go on a nationwide tour, showing at various galleries and venues. Finally, they will be auctioned for charity, all proceeds benefiting the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation.

The Betsey Johnson ones are divine, if you do attend the gala (I'll be leaving NY 3 days before! sadness) be sure to take some pictures? You do live in NY, right?
