Glamorate It: 2008 Tony Awards Red Carpet

The Tony Awards last night were wonderful. As for the red carpet, it was alright, but not too exciting — lots of black gowns, Old Hollywood, and Greek Goddess dresses. There were a few "I wish they hadn't" moments, but aren't there always?

Shows people are known for, but in which they no longer star, are marked with an asterisk. As usual with the images, clickify to biggify.

Gina Gershon (Boeing, Boeing)

Laura Benanti (Gypsy, TV's "Eli Stone")

Kristin Chenoweth
(Wicked*, TV's "Pushing Daisies")

Idina Menzel (Wicked*, Rent*)

Laura Bell Bundy (Legally Blonde)

That bag does not belong with that outfit...

Mary McCormack
(Boeing, Boeing, TV's "In Plain Sight")

Laura Osnes (Grease)

Kelli O'Hara (South Pacific)

Marisa Tomei (Oh, the Humanity)

Odd choice for summer...

The "Oh, no, they didn't!"

Pseudo-Edwardian Horridness

Laura Linney (Les Liaisons Dangereuses)

Scary 1920's Ostrich

Mary-Louise Parker
(Dead Man's Cell Phone, Showtime's "Weeds")

Crazy 1980's Bridesmaid, 101

Julie Chen (CBS's "The Early Show")

Vegas Bunny Bridesmaid

Lacie Kohl (Cry-Baby)

Not Even Patrick Stewart
Can Redeem This Dress

Kate Fleetwood (Macbeth)

Tony Men:

Harry Connick, Jr. (with daughter)
(Nice Work If You Can Get It, Spring 2009)

I'm just wild about Harry!
Best he's looked in 10 years.

Mark Rylance (Boeing, Boeing)

Mark, I've been your worshipper since
Shakespeare's Globe, but seriously,
the funny hats have got to go!

Rufus Sewell (Rock 'n' Roll*)

Oh, Rufus! You won my heart in the film
Dangerous Beauty. Sorry the show closed.
Call me if you want to talk :)

Laurence Fishburne (Thurgood) &
wife, Gina Torres (TV's Firefly)

What a power couple!

Daniel Radcliffe (Equus, Sept 2008)

I understand wanting to distance yourself
from the Harry Potter label, but honestly,
the Medieval monk hair is not pretty. Not.
