Fashion News: Isaac Mizrahi Says Bye-Bye to Target, Hello Liz Claiborne

It's all over the news wires and has both the fashion and the business world buzzing: Isaac Mizrahi has been named Creative Director of Liz Claiborne in order to revamp the brand. His contract with Target will close at the end of the year, right before his new line for Claiborne debuts.

Bad news for Target? Certainly. Mizrahi was the first designer to do a bargain-designer line for Target and it's greatly due to the success of his Target line that other designers such as Erin Fetherston, Liz Lange, and Vera Wang (for Target competitor Kohl's) even considered to do similar deals.

Exciting news for Liz Claiborne? You bet! The Claiborne brand has been flagging for a long time. After Liz Claiborne's death in 2007 the company was flooded with queries about the new direction the company would take, and Isaac was chosen not just for his obvious design prowess, but also for his star power.

"It had to be someone who was a complete icon beyond designing apparel," said Dave McTague, an Executive Vice President for Claiborne.1

I can't wait to see what next year will bring for Claiborne!
